There are two matchas behind the counter: one is the base of Matcha Latte No.1, the other of No.2. Here's how to tell them apart.
Ceremonial
The base of Matcha Latte No.2
- Best for
- Drinking straight, whisked with water — the usual way to enjoy it.
+HUF 500 gets you ceremonial matcha in any matcha drink.
“Premium” and “ceremonial” aren't official grades — they're the usual way to tell matchas apart by what they're meant for.
Four things about matcha

The whole leaf
Matcha is green tea ground into a powder. You don't steep it, you mix it in — so you drink the whole leaf.

Grown in the shade
Tea meant for matcha is usually shaded in the weeks before harvest — that's where the deep green comes from.

Zig-zag
Traditionally it's whisked with a bamboo whisk (chasen), in quick back-and-forth strokes.

Not boiling
At home, water around 70–80 °C is usually recommended; boiling water can make it more bitter.
